Special Olympics Needs Our Help

Jazz Rowe, Ohio Association President

Did you know that Special Olympics is our national service project?  Ohio BPA holds a contest at the State Leadership Conference to see which region can raise the most money for Special Olympics.  Each year, the state officer team set a goal to raise a certain amount of money to benefit their cause.

Special Olympics is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to individuals with disabilities in order to encourage them to become physically fit through games and competitions.  They currently serve 2.5 million people with disabilities through more than 200 programs in 165 countries.  They hold 30 Olympic type events in both the summer and the winter.

We are able to support Special Olympics through funding.  This year, our state officer has decided we would like to personally volunteer our time in helping with Special Olympics.  This organization relies on their volunteers to assure that each individual is offered quality sports training and competition experience.

I encourage all members to get involved with Special Olympics whether it is donating a few dollars for the cause, or donating your time and enthusiasm individually or with your local chapter.  As a previous volunteer with Special Olympics, I know that this is a very rewarding experience.  The excitement and joy in the individuals that compete is very touching.  Step out this year, and support our national service project, Special Olympics.
