Why Goals Are Important
Ashley Pawelski, Historian

Goals are very important to set in almost every area of life.  Setting goals shows that you have intentions of succeeding in life.  Goals should be set high, but not so high that they aren’t attainable.  Reaching goals gives a sense of accomplishment.  As a state officer team, we set goals for ourselves to achieve in our team.

In setting your goals, first, one has to sit back and decide what is important.  If you want to go to college after high school, then maybe you should set a goal of earning good grades while you are still in high school.  If you don’t motivate yourself in high school, what makes you think you will in college?  Get yourself motivated and on track now, and it will help tremendously in achieving goals in the long run.

After you’ve decided what is important, and you’ve set your goals, you have to follow through.  Decide on a plan of action after your goals are set.  If your grades are falling, but you’ve been to every school basketball game, maybe you should skip a game in favor of studying for that big chemistry test that is coming up.  Trust me, the team will still play their game and you will be ready for that test.

Setting goals shouldn’t be a scary thing.  You can talk to someone you trust, such as a teacher, to help you decide your goals.  Once you’ve met a goal, the feeling will be indescribable.  Seeing your hard work’s final production is an amazing feeling.  Just remember, set your goals for yourself and what you think you can accomplish…not what someone else wants you to do!
