Conquering Your Nerves

Nerves are something with which we are all familiar. Do you get nervous when you meet new people, when you do something you have never done before, or when you do something as simple as take a test? No matter when you get nervous there are ways to block that frightening feeling. There are many different ways you can conquer your nerves.  The thing that helps me overcome my nerves is being confident.

Everyone knows that confidence helps to build pride and poise. Being confident is really the key to anything you do. If you know that you have faith in yourself, you can do anything. Building high self-esteem is a way to gain confidence. It is important to know that you are the best that you can be. It is essential to always work as hard as possible, have a positive outlook on any situation, and to keep your head held high.

You may be wondering “How exactly can I practice defeating my nerves?” Well, if you want to gain confidence, it will help to try and be more outgoing if you are a shy person; if you are known as the quiet one of the group, speak up. You can also join groups or clubs that maybe, you thought would not be too interesting to see if something catches your interest. You can try speaking in front of crowds or become part of a club that practices public speaking.

A personal pep talk helps to calm my nerves. I imagine that I am about to play in a championship game. I get really pumped up and excited. I tell myself to stay positive. I always keep a smile on my face because I know that if other people see that I do not look nervous they will not think that I am nervous. I know at some point I might get worried; but as long as it is always in my head that I am doing my best, I know that I can do anything. I go after everything I believe I can succeed in and even if there is a possibility of failure I know there is always a next time. I don’t let the fear of failure stop me from trying.

Nerves might seem impossible to get over, but as long as you stay positive and confident you will gain something from every experience. As a member of Business Professionals of America it is important to know that you are among the best of the best. And even outside of BPA, know that you are the best that you can be. Nerves might be scary or seem like a hopeless factor to attempt to conquer but it is important to rise above any great barrier.
