Management Our Time

Rachel Russo, Ohio Association Parliamentarian

Take the dog out, clean the kitchen, write a paper, research a book, solve your math, prepare for competition, go to practice, do the laundry and don’t forget to donate time to your community. If this sounds like your typical day, you are not alone. In today’s world there is so much expected of young people.

A typical high school student attends school on a regular basis, holds a part time job and is involved with at least two extra curricular activities. There are so many options they can’t pick just one. Business Professionals of America members make time for much more…

The opportunities BPA has to offer are endless. BPA is much more than a professional organization educating students on today’s business world. BPA offers competitive events, scholarships, conferences, fundraisers, recognition, service projects and internships. BPA is an amazing privilege and every Ohio association member should be involved.

As a state officer, my job is to keep you informed of current BPA events and promote your involvement in the organization while abiding by the BPA Constitution.  However, as Rachel Russo, a high school senior who is just as busy as you are I would like to give you a few tips on how to manage your time and keep organized. I am my DECA chapter president, my marketing student ambassador, local chapter vice president, regional president and state parliamentarian. I also am a member of Teen Institute, SADD and Key Club.

Every morning as I am leaving the house, I check my planner for that day’s event. I truly believe everyone should keep some kind of planner, journal or To Do list. It is a proven fact that writing things down helps you remember them. It may be as simple as remembering what homework you had that day or a meeting that comes up in a month.

Another helpful tip is to plan ahead. I write upcoming events down as soon as I hear of them. I want to make sure I don’t double book my day and that I allow time to relax with my family and friends. It is important to include sleeping and eating in your busy day. I know it seems silly but I know of many over achievers who leave those vital steps out.

Set goals for yourself on a regular basis. The more goals you set, the more you can accomplish, the better you feel. Setting small weekly or even daily goals is an easy way to achieve success. For instance, I think of my To Do list as my everyday goals. I mark things off as I finish them and when the whole thing is crossed off, I accomplished my goal for the day. It is important to realize you may not end world hunger but you did achieve success by accomplishing your personal goals.
